Sydney Diocesan Secretariat Privacy Statement

Sydney Diocesan Secretariat (SDS) respects your privacy.

We are bound by the National Privacy Principles set out in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (the Privacy Act).

SDS provides administrative, secretarial and accounting services for the Anglican Church of Australia in the Diocese of Sydney and employs persons for this purpose.

In the course of providing its services SDS may also collect information about people who represent entities of the Anglican Church Diocese of Sydney, most commonly Anglican churches and parishes.  These people may or may not be volunteers.

Employee or prospective employees of SDS

We usually collect personal information such as a person's name, contact details, employment history (including opinions from referees), qualifications, personal interests, medical history and religious affiliation to employ people for the services we provide but we may collect other personal information as well. We use this information to assess a person's suitability for employment.

Where appropriate, we will handle personal information relying on the employee records exemption contained in the Privacy Act.

People who represent Anglican entities

We often collect personal information about people who represent Anglican entities such as a person's name, position and contact details. We store and use this information solely to facilitate further communication with that person in relation to the services provided, or to be provided, by SDS and/or other entities of the Anglican Church Diocese of Sydney.

When we collect sensitive information (as defined in the Privacy Act) we will collect it with your consent, unless the law allows us to collect it without your consent.

We may share your personal information with other entities who are members of the Anglican Church Diocese of Sydney including but not limited to the Archbishop’s Office, the Anglican Church Property Trust Diocese of Sydney, the Glebe Administration Board and associated entities and Anglican National Super. We will handle such personal information in accordance with the standards set out in our Privacy Policy.

SDS may disclose your personal information to third party service providers, agents or contractors from time to time to help us to provide our services. If we do this, we generally require those parties to protect your personal information in the same way we do.

We use a variety of physical and electronic security measures including restricting physical access to our offices and the use of firewalls and secure databases to keep personal information held on IT systems secure from misuse, loss or unauthorised use or disclosure.

Generally, you have a right to access personal information we hold about you. If we deny your request in some circumstances we will tell you why. Please contact our Privacy Compliance Officer by telephone on 9265 1647 or by writing to SDS, Level 2, St Andrew's House, Sydney Square, Sydney 2000 or by email at szl@sydney.anglican.asn.au to ask for access to your personal information, if you have a complaint about the way we handle your personal information, or if you would like more information about our approach to privacy, other members of the Anglican Church Diocese of Sydney or our third party service providers, agents or contractors.
