Georges River Regional Council Annual Report 1998

Introduction

1. In the year 1 July 1997 to 30 June 1998, the Regional Council met on 6 occasions and in addition held a 1-day conference in March 1998.

Membership

2. The Regional Council's membership is -

Changes in Membership

3. During the year, Mrs L Chardon resigned and the Regional Council elected Mrs K Newmarch to the vacancy.

Task Forces

4. The Regional Mission Task Force has now identified the Region's present mission priorities - places for potential church planting, area churches, special ministry churches and struggling churches. Its Mission, Vision and Goals Statement is being developed into specific plans for different ministry centres.

 

5. The Children's and Youth Ministry Task Force has a part-time co-ordinator who will create and lead the Children's and Youth working teams, liaise with Diocesan and Regional activities and offer support to workers and ministers.

 

6. The Cross-cultural Task Force has developed a comprehensive list of all NESB congregations and cross-cultural ministries in the Region and an evaluation instrument for cross-cultural ministry. It is now evaluating specific language group ministries and has made recommendations regarding cross-cultural grants in the Region.

Parish Organisation

7. The Regional Council amalgamated the parishes of Bexley and Bexley North as from 12 November 1997, and extended the Provisional Parish of Bossley Park until 31 December 2000. Council also noted that the Archbishop created the Provisional Parish of Hoxton Park out of the Provisional Parish of Sadleir on 1 December 1997, that the parish of Arncliffe became a Provisional Parish on 1 January 1998 and the Assisted Provisional Parishes of Bossley Park, Regents Park and St John's Park became Provisional Parishes on 1 January 1998. The Regional Council set up a Disputes Committee to investigate matters related to the Peakhurst Annual Vestry Meeting on 2 March 1997.

Ordinances

8. The Regional Council's Parish Administration Committee acted as the Ordinance Review Panel for the Belmore with McCallums Hill and Clemton Park Land Sale Ordinance and the St John's Park (Canley Heights) Sale and Lease Distribution Ordinance.

Grants

9. Grant applications for 1998 came from 31 parishes and the Council was able to give 18 grants.

Employment of Staff

10. Mr Min Yaw Law's employment as Lay Stipendiary Worker in Fairfield terminated when he became the Lay Stipendiary Worker at Cabramatta. Mrs Isobel Bennett is employed part-time as the ESL Co-ordinator in the Marrickville Area Deanery and Mrs Kerrie Newmarch is the part-time Children's and Youth Ministry Co-ordinator.
